MOEX presented an update on the status of its promotion of national examinations and measures to enhance civil servant selections at the 111th meeting of the Examination Yuan’s 13th term on November 3. Responding to the declining numbers of national exam takers and low birth rates, Examination Yuan President Huang Jong-tsun said that MOEX should continue to improve measures to promote national exams, reach out to college students, and collaborate with hiring agencies to improve workplace environments as incentives to attract talented people to the public sector.

To attract talented individuals to apply for national exams and promote public awareness of the selection system, MOEX has advertised through the internet, TV, government LED electronic displays, newspapers, and interactive platforms. Seminars have been held with educational institutions and hiring agencies to address insufficient civil servant recruitment in technology categories and to encourage students to take national exams. Forty-one info sessions have taken place at universities to promote national exams. Examination Yuan Commissioners were invited to support some of these sessions and interact with students.

The number of applicants for national exams has been declining for years due to low birth rates, changing demographics, expanded career options, changing socioeconomics, and intense competition for human resources. MOEX will continue working to increase the understanding of national examinations and attract college students to apply for the exams through innovative promotions and marketing methods. Some of these methods include hosting recruitment info sessions, establishing a campus coaching system, promoting civil service preparatory corps, adjusting the number of test subjects, and modifying organization laws to address the needs of digital and IT human resources. By collaborating with schools, MOEX hopes to increase the visibility of the national examination system and attract talented students to join the public sector. This will elevate the nation’s competitiveness.
